About this Cook
Since my youngest of 5 just got her own apartment I thought I would be suffering from empty nest syndrome. Two of them live within walking distance so I still see them almost daily. They think I am an extension of the local market! My son and twin grand daughters live on the other coast so I don't see them as often as I'd like, but we still stay well in touch.
My favorite things to cook
I like to bake breads, rolls, cookies, cobblers, pies. I like to make large dinners too and entertain frequently. I love trying new recipes out on friends and family.
My favorite family cooking traditions
I didn't really grow up with any. Neither my mother or grandmother were great cooks. I learned to cook by trial and error on my own. But I married into a family of excellent cooks who went all out for holidays. All of my children cook well and we work well together preparing holiday meals.
My cooking triumphs
My first successful yeast bread. I spent years being terrified of yeast. The first time my MIL complimented me on a meal I felt like I had won an Emmy.
My cooking tragedies
My early years of cooking were one fiasco after another. I could actually cook fairly well, but had no idea when to start things so they all were ready at the same time. Some meals took whole evenings. My poor husband never once complained, although he did once mention he hoped dinner would be over before it was time for breakfast.

Onion French Bread
I only made 1/2 the recipe and needed to make a few changes to accomodate what I had on hand. I replaced 1/4 cup of water with milk instead of using the powdered and I made my own onion soup mix (recipe from another site.) The dough was a bit sticky to work with but made a nice loaf, with a good crumb. We really enjoyed the leftover bread as a base for fried egg sandwiches today at lunch. Thanks for sharing the recipe.

Bill's Braisin Bread
This made a surprisingly good loaf of bread. Not too sweet, but interesting flavor. I did add some more raisins.

Final Exam Brownies
I had some mini marshmallows to use up and this was the answer. I had no baking chocolate so I used powered cocoa and butter but you would never know it. They didn't bake up with the grainy texture other eceipes do. The marshmallows did burn a bit on top so next time I will check for doneness at 30 minutes. Nice treat!
