About this Cook
I have been retired for 4 years, love to cook and bake. My husband of 46 years and I like to travel a bit, mostly cruising. He loves to garden and I love to buy stuff to plant and point to where it should go - a very amenable arrangement.
My favorite things to cook
Family dinners, particulary pot roast, baby back ribs, anything Italian. I love to make desserts and my family love to enjoy them.
My favorite family cooking traditions
My family has a long line of German/Swiss cooks so if it hasn't got whipping cream or butter in it it isn't worth eating!
My cooking triumphs
I do pie well, and long slow stews and pot roasts. Also love a good pork roast with lots of gravy and onions - always a hit. Love to do soups too.
My cooking tragedies
Blueberry pie - I cannot make a good cooked blueberry pie. The one time I did make one that looked like it might turn out well I dropped it on the floor taking it out of the oven. No more, now I make unbaked blueberry pie in a baked crust.

White Wedding Cake
I must admit I was a little worried about using this for my nephews wedding cake because of some of the really negative reviews. However, it is a wonderful cake - it holds up very well as the bottom tier of a 3 tiered cake - it was moist and had a lovely vanilla flavour. Because I was filling it with raspberry buttercream I left out the orange and almond extracts. The problem others have had may be because they didn't use CAKE flour as the recipe dictates. I doubled sifted it and as a result it had a very fine crumb. I reduced the yield to 50 and it was just right - made in an 11" X 3" pan.

GA Peach Pound Cake
I enjoyed the cake but try using peach schnapps instead of the almond or vanilla flavouring for more peach flavour. I served this with a light custard and it was delicious.

Pretty Peach Soup
Wow - what a great dessert - something a little different. I used a tablespoon of peach schnapps to snap it up a bit instead of the almond extract. It is creamy, not too sweet and the perfect end to a summer meal.
