About this Cook
I inherited my love of cooking from my mother and grandmother, and prepare meals daily for a family of four, also entertaining frequently. I garden and preserve my own food, as well as having at least a year's worth of groceries in my pantry. I am also into reading, photography, camping, and racing!
My favorite things to cook
Trying out new recipes!
My favorite family cooking traditions
Traditional Holiday meals are a must here, as my family is very opposed to anything different during those times. All the kids and grandkids come for a Christmas cookie decorating party every year. We also have homemade bread daily all year.
My cooking triumphs
Any recipe that comes out great after I tinker with it is a triumph! Also, I am mastering the art of just-enough done instead of well-done!
My cooking tragedies
I am known for cooking food too long (picture burnt to a crisp), especially in my early married years. No real tragedies, but some awful dinners!

Maple Cream Cheese Frosting
Great frosting! Used it on Applesauce cake, and it was perfect.

Applesauce Cake I
The first time I made this, I followed the recipe, only adding 2tbsp flour and 1/4 cup extra applesauce (for high altitude). It was moist and flavorful, and was gone in one sitting. The second time, I doubled the recipe, but used 1/3 the butter and 1/4 the sugar, and added a pint jar of apples from my home-canned stock. I then frosted it with maple cream cheese frosting (from this site). My husband couldn't stop eating it! Good recipe!
