Cream Cheese Marble Brownies
About this Cook
I am 19 years old, and I am just starting out, living on my own with my wonderful boyfriend of three years. I am a daddy's girl, and I always used to love to watch him cook and bake in the kitchen. I was always fascinated that you could throw a bunch of ingredients together and come out with a whole new food. My father was a natural cook who hardly ever measured anything, except for when he tried a new recipe for the first time, and made it verbatim. After that, he would improvise and personalize it. I learned a lot about food and cooking from him, and everyone says I have his natural abilities in the kitchen. I love finding new recipes, mastering them, and then making them my own.
My favorite things to cook
I love apple crisp, and almost any variation of a salad, and I also love chinese stir-frys with fresh veggies. I am always looking for new things to make in the crock pot as well. I'll try just about any recipe once.
My favorite family cooking traditions
My dad makes a great rich chocolate cake called a texas sheet cake, and I try to model my favorite dessert, fudgey brownies, after that. My mother is a good cook too, but she rarely shows off her skills. One of her specialties is buckeye candies made with oreoes. One of my specialties is parmesan chicken strips. They're a new family favorite.
My cooking triumphs
I recently found a great recipe for chocolate chip cookies with vanilla instant pudding in them, and it came out perfectly sized and cooked. normally, i have a hard time with cookies, because I either make them too small on the pan or too large and they don't bake properly. They were delicious... :)
My cooking tragedies
I recently made "one bowl brownies," a recipe on this site, and the recipe is a great one, nothing against that, but I tried to substitute a hershey's bar for the type of baking chocolate it called for, because that's what I had on hand, and I was just plain curious to see if it would work, and it was an inedible disaster. I even tried to salvage it with my homemade cream cheese frosting of cream cheese, sugar, cinnimon and vanilla, which is good on almost ANYTHING, and it still couldn't be saved... :(

Summer Squash Bread
This is a very good recipe. My bread turned out really good, except that it was a little dry and crumbly. The flavor is very good, esp. with brown sugar sprinkled on top before you bake it, so that it carmelizes.

Apple Crisp III
I have started making this recipe with a fever ever since I found it and perfected my version of it. Quite literally almost every day I'm making another batch, because my boyfriend, myself, and all my family and friends are always requesting it. I varied a little from the recipe. How I make it is, I use an 8x8 pan and I normally use about 3-5 apples, depending on how large they are. Granny smith taste the best with this, but i normally use regular red del. I peel and core them, and I pour 1/3 C. water over them in the pan. after that, I sprinkle cinnimon over them until they are coated, and i add a light sprinkling of nutmeg, just enough for taste. then I mix the topping together. I use- 1/2 C. butter, 1/2 C. white sugar, 1/2 C. brown sugar, and mix that. Then I add cinnimon liberally to that, until it's covered, and about 3 Tb. of vanilla. I mix that in. Then I add 3/4 C. of flour. I spread the topping over the apples, usually by hand to make sure it's even, and then I sprinkle brown sugar liberally over the top for a nice crunchy crust. I bake it at 400 degrees for 40 minutes. it always comes out perfectly.

Tangy Grilled Beef
I followed this recipe precisely, except that I added a lot more worchestershire sauce and brown sugar, because I wanted a really strong flavor. I cooked my steaks over the stove with diced onion and green pepper, and poured the sauce over it as it cooked. the steak was flavorful and juicy, def. a favorite at our house now.
