About this Cook
I'm a normal person in a normal job but I feel like I have a day job and a evening and weekend job as I literally go home everyday to cook and bake! I felt very inspired by the book "Julie & Julia" featuring a American girl cooking all of Julia Child's recipes from "Mastering the Art of French Cooking" in one year. I buy kitchen tools, pots and pans with every extra cent I manage to spare and love every moment I spend with them! I run a little wedding and birthday cake business after hours and cater for functions on occasion.
My favorite things to cook
I enjoy baking cakes. From rich chocolate and fruit cakes to light sponge angel cakes. I absolutely indulge in the art of frosting. I experiment with every ingredient possible. I love cooking casseroles with good wine. I love cooking traditional South African food (and jazzing it up a bit on occasion).
My favorite family cooking traditions
As I am still single (yes, I have proven the line that the way to a man's heart is through his stomach to be a absolute myth!), I make use of every opportunity where there's a get together to try out more dishes. Easter is a great opportunity as we usually have a convention at church which leaves lots of hungry people sitting at my pink table, decorated with crystal and fancy serviettes amidst of the barbeque tables with paper plates! This always makes my guests feel like VIPs.
My cooking triumphs
Cooking Julia Child's Boeuf Bourgignon (Burgundy Beef Casserole). The prepping time is appr. 5 hours but worth every minute of the love labour. This took a few practice runs to master and I believe it is still improving.

Clone of a Cinnabon
This had my guests begging for more. For the amount of effort it is so worth it!

Lemon Meringue Pie III
I found the pie to be lip smacking and have had so many compliments every time I make it. The only advice I can give is to add 3 - 4 drops of lemon juice to the meringue before spooning over the filling and baking. It keeps the meringue from collapsing afterwards. Great recipe!

Miracle Baking Powder Pie Crust
I have always been too busy to make my mini pie crusts, until someone complained about the tastelessness of the pre-made ones I buy from the home industry... :0) So, today I tried this recipe and it is amazing. I never thought it would be so easy! Thank you so much for a great recipe!
