About this Cook
I'm American but currently living in France. I am new to cooking, so I am still discoving differnt recipes and different methods for cooking simple and ordinary iteams. I learned to cook from my French mother-in-law, but have branched away from that since discoving this website. For me, cooking is about make good yet healthy food.
My favorite things to cook
I love to make breads. As a child, my mother, every year, always made pumpkin, banana, and zucchini bread, so now I am continuing that tradition. Also, I love to bake sweets, but I am not a big fan of eatting them, so I always send them to work with my husband.
My favorite family cooking traditions
Other than making homemade breads, I cannot think of a favorite family cooking tradition.
My cooking triumphs
I am not very confident as a cook, therefore, whenever I make something that turns out good, I am very content.
My cooking tragedies
For some reason, I am very nervous when cooking for other people, so my tragedies tend to happen when cooking for guests. The worst has to be when I tried to make strawberry filled crepes and the strawberries were bad and thus the crepes turned out to be bad, too. Also, I made an Indian dish for my cousin and only at the end of the dish did I realize that I under cooked the rice. Luckily, my cousin was polite and didn't say anything, but it's was still a disaster.

Curried Butternut Squash and Pear Soup
This was definitely a good soup and will probably make it again. I did as one reviewer suggested and added a half teaspoon of brown sugar and a pinch of nutmet and cinnnamon. I am not sure that this added anything more to the recipe, but nonetheless, this turned out to be a good soup.

Creamy Scallop Chowder
This was a very tasty soup! I did not have green onions, so instead I used regular onions. I did as another reviewer suggested and sautéed the scallops in the grease of the piece of bacon that I cooked before hand. I then added, in small pieces, the bacon to the soup. I only cooked the scallops for one minute on each side and then added them to the soup at the very last moment. Scallops should not be over cooked, otherswise they loose their light texture and become chewy and rubbery. I did as others and added some chives and a cup and a half of chicken stock as well as potatoes which made this soup filling enough as a main course.

Fig and Olive Tapenade
I thought this was a nice blend of flavors, but I was rather taken aback by the strong and somewhat over powering flavor of garlic. Next time I'll use less garlic, but nonetheless this was quite tasty and I will definitely be making this again. As other reviewers have said, goat cheese is a must for this recipe.
