38, female 2 boys. Nurse by profession. Mom by choice. Love my children/family, cooking, animals and nature, in that order. Cooking is therapy for me. Feel like I have "withdrawals" if I don't cook a meal for us after a few days.
My favorite things to cook
Different things. I am Norwegian but love to prepare something Asian. Mexican is fun too. Like to experiment and "wing it". Not very good at following recipes with exact measurements. Not into baking at all.(for that reason)
My favorite family cooking traditions
None really. My mother HATED to cook. I started at 7-8 years old. By my teens I was cooking for "parties" hosted by my mothers friends. Nothing major but it was fun and I got paid. Did the football parties for my Dad and his friends as well. I think I missed my calling.
My cooking triumphs
Family, friends and co-workers requesting (sometimes pleading) for my home made recipes. Makes me feel great that they like my food that much! I make the most slammin' corned beef, pot roast, macaroni salad (it's ORANGE), macaroni and cheese that may cause a heart attack at 4 bites. (I use 6-8 pounds of 6 different cheeses and it's baked with heavy cream) I make 5 pounds for every family event!! If you're interested, I will give you the "recipe". (although I measure NOTHING!) My stir frys are amazing. I just wing it and it all comes out really good. My kids have "dubbed" my chicken and steak "Mommy steaks and Mommy chicken". They don't like them in a restaurant.
My cooking tragedies
Attempting to "bake" and I either burn everything or it just comes out like . I have no patience. If I have to sit and wait 12-30 minutes, I go and start laundry, come back way too late and it's smokin'. I am ok with grease all over the kitchen but a few sprinkles of flour and I come undone. Go figure. Makes no sense but I don't care. That's why they have "bakeries".
