Granny's Brownies

Reviewed: Sep. 14, 2009
I couldn't get these to cook quite right. Because of the other comments, and the picture, I added another oz.of chocolate which I believe helped quite a bit. My family prefers fudgier, chocolatier brownies I think. Thanks a lot!

Brooke's Best Bombshell Brownies

Reviewed: Sep. 14, 2009
I'm on a quest to find the best brownie recipe at the moment, and so far, this is the best one I've made! Do not omit those chocolate chips! Be sure to use a glass 13x9 baking dish, and take out the brownies just when they're done- do NOT overcook! One of the easiest brownie recipes I've found!

With some more flavor, this recipe is definitely a keeper! Maybe some onion and garlic powder, lots more parmesean cheese- experiment with it! Thanks so much!

Zucchini Pie II

Reviewed: Jul. 22, 2009
I went out and bought zucchini for this recipe, and after making it I see why everybody is saying the its great for those with too much zucchini on their hands. It was good, but I left my recipe on the counter, and after my family saw that it was a vegetable they wouldn't hardly try it! Next time I'll just use this recipe with other fruit :)I used 5 zucchini and leakylou's suggestion for a crumble on top, which was the perfect addition. With the crumble, I would reccomend cooking it about 35 minutes.

Roasted Garlic Bread

Reviewed: Jul. 22, 2009
This was really good, if I make it again, I'll use less butter and more garlic, since my bulbs weren't huge. It also really needs to be broiled to crisp up. A really great recipe, just needs to be tweaked to my family's tastes!!

Rich and Creamy Tomato Basil Soup

Reviewed: Jul. 22, 2009
Yummmm. No need to peel or seed the tomatoes in my opinion. This is definitely a restaurant quality soup. The last time I had Tomato Basil Soup served to me in a restaurant, they left a few chunks and a put a ravioli in the middle of the bowl, and then poured the soup around it- just an idea for a wonderful presentation. This is soooo good, what a keeper!

Lane Cake

Reviewed: Jul. 20, 2009
I made this a while back for my class after reading "To Kill A Mockingbird" and everybody loved it! My teacher told me after one bite "Normal people can't so this" He was practically dancing as he ate! I used Brandy instead of Bourbon, used a full cup of coconut, half a cup of raisins, and maraschino cerries. The seven-minute icing was the perfect touch! I had to fight to save two pieces for my family to try.

Grandmother's Buttermilk Cornbread

Reviewed: Jul. 20, 2009
This is the best cornbread I have ever tasted. The recipe is perfect, I just preferred my 10 in. cast iron skillet and baked about 25 minutes. I can't thank you enough, my family simply RAVED about this! My favorite recipe so far on this website :0)

Texas Cowboy Stew

Reviewed: Jul. 20, 2009
I'm a real Texas girl and I can tell you my whole family loved this recipe- It made enough for an army! I hardly had a pot big enough, which is something to say! I'll half the recipe next time and it'll still be plenty, I'm sure. My family told me that the next time I make it, since I WILL be making this again, to half the amount of sausage, so I'll do that as well. 10 stars, thank you so much!

Sweet Potato Fluff

Reviewed: Jul. 18, 2009
Oh so good, but ohhh so sweet! I enjoyed this very much, but because I knew how much butter and sugar was in it, I couldn't eat but a few bites! Other than cooking the sweet potatoes, this was a very simple "dump" recipe- a relief after working with my turkey all day.

Perfect Turkey

Reviewed: Jul. 18, 2009
Definitely very moist and super juicy! The white meat was gobbled up before the dark! My family really enjoyed this recipe, I WILL be making this again. After seeing the comments about adding more vegetables, I threw in some squash, garlic, and potatoes. Interestingly enough, my baby carrots didn't cook through! The veggies inside my bird were still quite crisp as well. Next time, I'll double the veggies and add a little more flavor!

Frosting for Petits Fours

Reviewed: May 11, 2009
The reason I didn't give this five stars is not because of the taste, they were really great once I got it right! I tried it five times! I made a recipe very similar to this one, only with a pound of confectioner's sugar and a tablespoon of butter at the end, rather than just one and a half cups of the powdered sugar. Here are my tips: if your icing is too thin, add more powdered sugar, and if it is too thick, add as much hot water as you need. I had to constantly water it as it thickened up very quickly. I used a piping bag to pour over the sides of the cake just to make sure they were covered before using a medium-sized spoon to pour icing over the top and get a nice, smooth surface. I was only happy with the way it covered the cake the last time I made it, it was not too thin and not too thick from the beginning, though I still had to add water from time to time. Maybe it had something to do with me doubling the recipe since I only did it that last time? I had enough to cover about thirty 2x2 petit fours, which is a great size, especially if they are layered. In any case, these were beautiful and got AMAZING reviews from the people at the wedding shower that I made them for. If you’re looking for an idea, I used Betty Crocker French Vanilla and Golden Vanilla cakes doctored with about a teaspoon of almond flavoring apiece. I also filled the middle with a buttercream icing that I had folded cherry preserves (run through the blender) into, as the shower was cherry-themed.

Old Fashioned Rice Pudding

This was yummy, but a tad too sweet for my taste. The pudding didn't quite set up as much as I would have liked it to, but this is still a great recipe!

Cornish Game Hens with Garlic and Rosemary

Reviewed: May 1, 2009
The hens were juicy and so yummy. Be sure to INCREASE THE COOKING TIME a bit, two out of four hens were mostly done, one was perfect, and the other was quite bloody. I substitued fresh parsley for a certain family member who dislikes rosemary, and she loved it. After only being able to eat half of my hen, I put it in the fridge and when I ate it cold the next day, the rosemary really stood out. I reccommend using cornish hens for this recipe, it's so much more fun!

Tasty Lemonade

Reviewed: Apr. 27, 2009
The brown sugar was very interesting in this recipe! It was indeed tasty, I drank the whole thing and got a bit queasy x.x I personally prefer white suger, but it was definately worth a shot! Be sure to freeze lemon juice/lemonade for ice cubes so the drink you worked so hard for doesn't get watered down!

Healthy Banana Cookies

Reviewed: Apr. 27, 2009
This is a great recipe for the kiddos, I'll keep it for when I have some of my own! :) I added a good number of fruits and spices. Don't go easy on the cinnamon! I sweetened it up with about 1/3 cup of honey and used applesauce rather than oil. Yummy but a little too soft and gooey for the adults in my family.

Creamy Rice Pudding

This was great! It even converted a few non-believers :) It was just sweet enough, and was great both hot and cold. Had it for supper last night piping hot and breakfast this morning nice and chilled. I used medium-grain rice and it was perfect.

Potato Leek Soup III

Reviewed: Mar. 20, 2009
This soup is AMAZING! I've tried many Leek Potato Soup recipes and this one is definitely the best. I used half&half instead of heavy cream and put a couple cups into my magic bullet (blender/food processer) then added it back to the pot for a thicker texture.

Baked Lemon Chicken

Reviewed: Mar. 18, 2009
I loved this! The chicken was so tender and fragrant- my whole family really enjoyed it. I broiled it for the last ten minutes in order to get it a bit crispier, and squeezed some fresh lemon juice on top while it baked.
