Hero & I
About this Cook
I have a husband and 2 dogs. I recently found out I can't have gluten. I am constantly on the hunt for gluten-free recipes, dairy free too if I can help it. I enjoy snowboarding, running with the dogs, painting when I have a spare moment, and getting together with friends making food.
My favorite things to cook
Pizza - you'd know why if you've eaten pizza in England! Especially when you grew up anywhere near NYC. It's good, and all our friends here are hooked on it. Currently I'm developing a gluten-free crust. Strawberry shortcake - using Dad's hot milk sponge recipe. Haven't tried a gluten-free version yet. Guacamole - spicy and chunky. Stromboli - using my pizza dough, it's meatastic. Sauce on the side. Jacket Potatoes - broiled crispy skin, lots of options for topping.
My favorite family cooking traditions
Strawberry Shortcake, and any manner of fresh veggies.
My cooking triumphs
Adapting a so-so pizza recipe into a truly delicious one. My husband's compliment: 'If you're in NY, it's not good and there's no reason to make it. But out here, it's AMAZING - the best around.' I'm hoping my gluten-free version is good too. Also, I have a killer oatmeal cookie recipe. Even my picky hubby loves them! The trick is adding cardamom.
My cooking tragedies
Breaded chicken. The first time I made it, I stupidly didn't think to use a separate bowl for the egg, which resulted in pancakey chicken. The second time I made it, I didn't think to use breadcrumbs, and I used flour (thinking it was the same as deep-fried chicken recipe). After 2 failed attempts, even though it's the easiest thing in the world, I can't bring myself to make it!

Amish White Bread
My husband thought this was great, but personally I thought it was a bit dense, and the dough was tough to work with. This might be down to my kneading skills tho! It was tasty though.
