About this Cook
I have recently discovered my love for cooking. Pre about 8 months ago, i couldn't even make orange juice. I tried a couple recipes and realized that it wasn't that hard and a lot of fun. I love this site because i like all the reviews so i can tailor recipes to my taste before ever having made them.
My favorite things to cook
We are a complicated crew...I am a recovering vegetarian living with a recovering sugar addict/meat at every meal boyfriend. I started cooking in part because we are concerned about all the additives in foods (high levels of sodium, MSG etc). We try to make 70% of our meals vegetarian to leave a lighter footprint on the planet.
My favorite family cooking traditions
Our family on both sides are foodies...some are traditional, follow recipe folks and others are throw things together and see what they can created. Regardless, the prep time talking/drinking/laughing is always the best.
My cooking triumphs
Realizing that it isn't that hard and that it really does taste better when you make your own food versus eating out.
My cooking tragedies
My biggest tragedy was attempting to make a hazelnut torte and realizing i was out of butter. Having watched my dad cook, he always used butter and olive oil interchangeably, NOT so with baking. I added olive oil to my recipe and ended up with a layer of green jello on the top. I proceeded to ice my torte but the taste gave it away!

Jo-Ann's Power Bars
Based on other reviews, I omitted the vegetable oil and brown sugar, and added 2/3 cup of applesauce. I also did not have a wheat/barley cereal so added a bit more flour (about 1/4 cup). Based on others suggestions I added 2 tbsp. peanut butter to make sure they were chewy enough. The raw dough was the consistency of cookie dough. These turned out fabulous! Based on my changes, i think they needed a bit more sugar and will try again with chocolate chips. It is a great recipe for those that prefer a chewier granola bars.

Chicken Enchiladas I
READ REVIEWS to tailor to your taste. This is an excellent recipe without too many changes. The only thing I changed was omitted the 1/2 cup water (not needed and takes away from the flavour) and added cut black olives to the top. I used "La Victoria" brand taco sauce which tastes authentic and is a bit thicker than other brands and corn tortillas which were absolutely key to the taste. (If they crack and break as you are assembling just go with it, it comes out as a lovely lasagna type dish) Thank you for the recipe

Chocolate Ganache
I used a 60% cocoa semi sweet dark chocolate bar and it turned out great...it is more rich than sweet. Perfection!
