Is a cooking blog really the right place to start a boycott of a country?  Here me out a bit and then you decide. What if the issue inspiring the boycott is food? What if it involves the slaughter of one of our closest mammalian relatives? What if the government of one of the top five e MORE

About this Cook
fifty-something aging preppy. Still a geek, growing well into my nerdiness. Still a little awkward, but finally finding my voice. Totally in love and love cooking for my special one. Have decided that we should eat, and talk every chance we get. One of five children of parents from rural South Dakota. Love All, Serve All.
My favorite things to cook
Pad Thai, any Crisp or Brown Betty, Pastas with butter and cheese or clams or faux meatballs. Almost any Quorn product- love that corn fungus flour. Tofu any which way, but fried is best. Egg dishes.
My favorite family cooking traditions
Oyster Stew on Christmas Eve. Holiday Cookies- 10 varieties or so, then bringing them to the neighbors.
My cooking triumphs
Cooking for a house with an omnivore and radical vegetarian. Tapioca from scratch, Fooling my brother-in-law the production veterinarian with fake "Gimme-lean" sausage. Cooking turkey for 24 family members and having left-overs. (fried mash potatoes with cranberries are my favorite). Pear Crisp with raspberry coulee. Figuring out how to make a mango lassi.
My cooking tragedies
Popover flop-over. Over cooked Dover Sole. I have a tendency to over-season things, so I am on a limited seasoning campaign.

Shrimp Pad Thai
Skip the ketchup. Flavor is too bold with it, and this should have a delicate flavor. Don't use dry roasted nuts- raw unsalted peanuts are better. Having grown up in Thailand I may be a bit too picky, but I really found this an unsatisfactory take on one of my favorite dishes.
