Having cooked for & with my family growing up prepared me for being a wife and mother of 4 plus a dog. Our last child grad this past May and now we're enjoying the "semi empty nest" stage of our life! When I'm not working my part-time business with Tastefully Simple, (www.tastefullysimple.com/web/djeffreys), my husb and I both enjoy eating healthy while traveling, visiting our daughter & her husband who live in Gulf Shores as well as camping, hiking & exploring the great outdoors whenever we can!
My favorite things to cook
I was raised cooking and eating southern style. We still do - only healthier! I'm also a food party plan consultant & LOVE implementing & experimenting new and different ways to use our products with our family favorites. Feel free to check out my website: www.tastefullysimple.com/web/djeffreys
My favorite family cooking traditions
My children and I always cook breakfast together on Christmas morning. Our usual fare is breakfast casserole w/salsa, cheese grits, homemade biscuits, monkey bread, & apple julep to drink w/coffee. It may sound like a crazy menu to some but if I were to break tradition, I think my children would have me banned from the house! lol!
My cooking triumphs
My husband and I had gastric bypass surg 5 years ago. Having been raised on good ol' southern cooking, I had to re-learn how to cook our favorites - only healthier. Even though some recipes can NOT be re-vamped, a lot of our favorites can and have. That for us IS a triumph. The biggest reason is that we've kept the weight off that we've lost! yeah!
My cooking tragedies
Gravy when I was growing up. Instant or none. Until I got married and then it came very naturally. Go figure! Of course, there's always another "first Thanksgiving turkey" tragedy. My bird was so flat chested that I cooked it upside down including the little bag of organs that you're supposed to remove.
