About this Cook
Grew up in a family that cooked food which could be considered a fusion between Chinese and Vietnamese. I guess I got the best of both worlds! :)
My favorite things to cook
I will try making almost anything at least once! I really enjoy baking things like cookies and cakes (I have quite a sweet tooth) and have recently started baking my own bread too. As for main dishes, appetizers, etc. my tastes generally run towards those that are savory rather than those which carry and underlying sweetness.
My favorite family cooking traditions
Hot pot during the winter, so easy to make and can be eaten for many meals. Big pots of chicken soup to make Vietnamese pho...the soup definitely tastes better on the second and third day as the flavors really begin to meld together!
My cooking triumphs
Baked bread by hand for the first time yesterday and it turned out marvelously! I was very happy with the results I got by following the recipes for French Baguettes and Jo's Rosemary Bread I found on this site. The Award Winning Chocolate chip cookies recipe was also fantastic as was a banana nut bread I made.
My cooking tragedies
Scones...I followed the recipe for Grandma Johnson's scones but they turned out way too dense. I must have over mixed the batter and will definitely try again...hopefully with a much more delicious end product this time! :)

Banana Banana Bread
This is absolutely delicious! I have made it many times now (whenever I have bananas that are about to go bad) and it never fails to deliver. Use only extra ripe bananas for this recipe and you can use 3/4 cup of brown sugar, but make sure not to pack it. I also like to add in about a tablespoon of vanilla extract as well as 1/2 cup of coarsely chopped walnuts! I have two batches baking in the oven right now as I'm writing this review! :)

Jo's Rosemary Bread
This bread is very delicious, but is a tad too salty (hence the 4 stars rather than 5). Decrease the salt to about 1 tsp and it turns out to be just about right! I made one loaf yesterday and another today (both by hand using some of the tips the other reviewers left) and the one with less salt I made today disappeared so much more quickly! Half of it was gone within 10 minutes of leaving the oven!!! :)

French Baguettes
This was absolutely delicious! I did everything by hand, left out the egg wash and sprinkled with a tiny bit of kosher salt! Crust turned out nice and crispy while the inside stayed soft and moist!!! I will definitely be making this again, but will probably add about 2 tsp each of Italian seasoning and rosemary to make make herbed bread! Yummy!!!
