About this Cook
I'm 30 years old and a part-time housewife, part-time research scientist. I enjoy experimenting in the kitchen, tweaking recipes to suit my pantry stocks and personal preferences, as well as sometimes throwing together ingredients with the hope that my concoction will turn out edible.
My favorite things to cook
Anything quick and easy, or not-so-quick but classic.
My cooking triumphs
I baked a fabulous rich chocolate cake, and we ate the whole thing within a day--we even finished off the pieces I had (futilely) left in the freezer for future enjoyment...and there were only two of us :-)
My cooking tragedies
For one Indian dish I had never made before, I followed the recipe to the letter and it ended up looking like a disaster, or so I thought. It turned out that that dish was intended to look exactly so, because my husband recognized exactly what it was. Unfortunately, it also happened to be his 2nd-worst favourite Indian dish of all!

McCormick(R) Gingerbread Men Cookies
Followed the recipe fairly faithfully except only put the dough in the freezer (not fridge) to chill for about 45 min. Also added heaping measurements of the spices, but much less than double. The result was a delicious cookie on the softer side. Was told they were the best gingerbread cookies they ever had. I followed another reviewer's suggestion to roll out the dough between sheets of parchment paper. Highly recommended. I did mix everything by hand. Would have been easier with an electric mixer but it wasn't the end of the world.

Chicken Souvlaki Gyro Style
I just used this recipe for the tzatziki sauce. It tasted authentic and fabulous! I think it was the best part of my Greek-themed dinner.

Coconut Macaroons III
These were a hit with my hard-to-please husband! The best part was how simple they were - no eggs and few ingredients. For all you other Canadians who buy condensed milk in 300 ml cans, here's the my slightly-reduced converted recipe (I was still able to make 2 batches: 1 dozen larger macaroons + 10 smaller macaroons) 1/2 c. flour, 4 cups coconut, tiny pinch of salt, one 300-ml can sweetened condensed milk, 1.5 tsp vanilla extract.
