About this Cook
I'm 29 years old and a part-time housewife, part-time research scientist. I enjoy experimenting in the kitchen, tweaking recipes to suit my pantry stocks and personal preferences, as well as sometimes throwing together ingredients with the hope that my concoction will turn out edible.
My favorite things to cook
Anything quick and easy, or not-so-quick but classic.
My cooking triumphs
I baked a fabulous rich chocolate cake, and we ate the whole thing within a day--we even finished off the pieces I had (futilely) left in the freezer for future enjoyment...and there were only two of us :-)
My cooking tragedies
For one Indian dish I had never made before, I followed the recipe to the letter and it ended up looking like a disaster, or so I thought. It turned out that that dish was intended to look exactly so, because my fiancé recognized exactly what it was. Unfortunately, it also happened to be his 2nd-worst favourite Indian dish of all!

Balsamic Glazed Salmon
It was OK. My fiance found the balsamic taste a bit too strong.

Apple Banana Cupcakes
Great way to use up old bananas and apples. I used 5 very ripe, small bananas and 2 old apples. Omitted the eggs without any problem. Also substituted shortening with canola oil (used 1/3 cup + 1/6 cup) and buttermilk with sour milk. To make 1/4 cup sour milk, add enough milk to 3/4 tsp of vinegar to measure 1/4 cup in total. Quite sweet, so I found it did not need toppings or frosting. Yummy!!

Marinated Flank Steak
Was very good, as expected from the phenomenal reviews. I used less soy sauce, and I substituted olive oil and white wine vinegar. Otherwise I followed the marinade recipe exactly. Marinated the steaks for 2 days and cooked them in a skillet. Yum!
