About this Cook
To be honest, I cook out of necessity, not out of the love for it. But I do enjoy finding new recipes as I seem to rotate the same ones over and over. I really enjoy this website for finding new things and I also appreciate reading the reviews. They help a lot!
My favorite things to cook
I like making things in a slow-cooker and I enjoy making appetizers.
My favorite family cooking traditions
Just this year I started making roll-out sugar cookies with our 2-1/2 year old granddaughter and I hope that will continue as a tradition.
My cooking triumphs
Anything that turns out and that everyone likes is a triumph for me!
My cooking tragedies
Once when I was young and a novice cook, I was asked to bring a salad to the family Thanksgiving dinner. I found a cranberry salad recipe. It sounded so good. But when everyone tried it, they kind of laughed and wouldn't eat it. Well, the recipe didn't say that you had to "cook" the cranberries before adding them to the salad! That story is still told thirty years later and we still laugh about it!

Cornucopia
This turned out better than I thought and was much easier than I'd envisioned. I didn't have any trouble with slippage but the braid did fall off during baking. I think it was too heavy. I pinned it back in place with wood picks. Can't wait to fill it with fresh cut veggies - it will be a conversation piece as well as a nice change from the old "relish tray"!

Chocolate Crinkles II
My 3-year old granddaughter and I made these. I substituted applesauce for the oil and Egg Beaters for the eggs. The taste was delicious and the texture reminds me of a soft brownie which was great! The only disappointment was that we could not roll them into balls. The dough was so sticky I had to drop the dough by teaspoons onto the cookie sheet. I put the dough in the freezer as suggested by another reviewer but that didn't help. They tasted good but certainly didn't have the presentation like the picture.

Slow Cooker Chicken Taco Soup
This was pretty good but seemed to need a little more zing! I cut up the chicken breasts into cubes, cooked them and then put them in the crockpot with the rest of the ingredients. It seemed simpler that way.
