Happiest day of my life.
About this Cook
I am a 24 year old Georgia born and bred Southerner ( also known by those that know me a Redneck . Since I was a kid I have always loved to cook, growing up my family didn't have much so I was forced to come up with combinations that were good. I have never regreted being raised like that, it has only made me a better person, and in my opinion, a better cook for it. I have a loving and supporting family where everyone loves to cook, so in my mind I have everything I could ask for.
My favorite things to cook
Being from the South any combination of chicken, greens, and beans or peas, is always a winning combination with our family. I like to cook at my comfort level with southern foods, but I will always branch out and try to come up with new dishes from all over the worl.
My favorite family cooking traditions
Ever since I could remember my family has always made rum cakes for Christmas. We always had plenty to go around the dinner table and to give as gifts. I am still continuing the tradition with my own family. I like to try to find different variations on it to keep it new and fresh, and keep on giving it as gifts.
My cooking triumphs
After my return from my honeymoon in Jackson Hole Wyoming I came up with a BBQ sauce. It was inspired by the huckleberry jams and jellies we had previously eaten at a lot of the restaurants there. With a little ingenuity and creativity I had blended a great mix of berry and smoky BBQ sauce.
My cooking tragedies
One of the worst cooking experiences I ever had was when I was about 16 years old. I have always loved hot and spicy foods, so when I had an idea for habenero chicken, I went with it. It turned out to be so hot and spicy it literally took my breath. to make matters worse I accidently rubbed my eyes after I had handeled the habeneros. I have since then worked on a better recipe, that's not as hot as the devil, and with a little better flavor.
