I love to bake! Whether it's cookies or scones or something in between, I love to try new recipes and treat my sweet tooth at the same time. My husband and I often make each other "special" dinners and we both love to try out new recipes. I've been using this website forever - and I've finally got up the nerve to join! I guess I'm just nervous that my recipes will stink compared to all the great new discoveries I've made on this site.
My favorite things to cook
Way too hard a question! I love trying new breakfast recipes, such as waffles or quiches. But then again, I do love a great steak or salmon charbroiled ... But I also can't get enough of anything with lots of spice - like thai food or chili. I love the fact that both my husband and I will try out new recipes. We have "cook offs" where we both try and create the same dish and rate which one is better. There's no actual betting, but there is some great food!
My favorite family cooking traditions
Cookie Night. Ever year, a few weeks before Xmas, we all get together at either my dad's house or mine for some appetizers and a huge cookie exchange. Each couple/family ends up with about two dozen of each of about twenty different cookies. I get home from the gathering and make up care packages for just about every one I know. I love seeing family and having this great time together before the insane holiday craziness begins.
My cooking triumphs
Best dish ever - pad thai with tofu and Korean wontons. I love experimenting with spices and after making this dinner a bunch of times (it's my husband's favorite), I think I've finally got restaurant quality.
My cooking tragedies
When I was in high school my mom would leave dinner for me to heat up for my dad and me while she was working. She only worked two weekdays, so this wasn't a big deal. But... she left me a pot roast to prepare and bake then broil. I swear to you, I cooked the thing exactly as instructed and it was still raw. Then, my dad and I cooked the thing for another hour - still completely raw. Not cold - just not cooked! So we zapped the sucker in the microwave.... nothing!
