About this Cook
single mom of one teenager. i am trying to cook at home more often and more consistently. it's often to easy to get take out food, which is not healthy or satisfying in the least most often. plus it gets more expensive than just cooking at home. i'm a southern girl living out west, so i know how to cook, which is sad. so that's my commitment to myself and my daughter: to cook more often and eat together more often.
My favorite things to cook
i love to cook southern style dishes. but i'm also open to italian food, indian foods, and any dish prettty much. i don't like to cook desserts for some reason, but maybe i will learn..
My favorite family cooking traditions
i'm planning to start them with my daughter. i think it's a great way to bond and talk about anything over cooking and a great meal...
My cooking triumphs
i always cook the holiday dinner for thanksgiving and christmas for my family. ALONE. i once stayed up to 7 am to cook dinner for the holidays after working a 10 hour day that started at 7 am the day before.so i am true kitchen warrior i believe.
My cooking tragedies
peeling potatoes in the army, not safe at that time! i was a regular band aid junkie as a result of that experiment gone bad. also once i tried a recipe on this site and added to much sugar to the recipe and the dish turned out a nighmare for even non-diabetics!

Red Chicken with Vegetables
this is a keeper, my rather finicky 16 year old daughter asked for this recipe specifically after the first time i cooked it...i didn't make any changes but will try a few things different next time i make it.

Spaghetti Sauce III
This was a hit with the family. However I used everything fresh, and it was much better than using garlic powder. Overall it was great!
