About this Cook
I am the oldest in a large family consequently I usually make far more food than necessary out of habit. I have two grown children and a fabulous, handsome, intelligent 2 year-old grandson named Maddox. I also love being with my siblings for get-togethers.
My favorite things to cook
Typical dishes I remember from when I was growing up in the fifties and sixties that feature a modern twist, such as a French Lasagna that Julia Child featured once on her tv show or a Waldorf Salad made with yogurt that is low cal, but is tastes better than the original. I also love making bread pudding.
My favorite family cooking traditions
My family loves my turkey dressing at Thanksgiving and the turkey soup that I make from the carcass.
My cooking triumphs
My recipe for a Shrimp Vegetable Bisque that I originally found in Better Homes and Gardens Magazine which I revised and my family always requests I make during the holidays.
My cooking tragedies
A grilled whole turkey with a honey glaze that caught fire on the grill.

Spiced Banana Cake
I wasn't so impressed..., Not a bad recipe, but I think I'll save my overripe bananas for a banana bread or the Banana Crumb Muffins on this site which are fabulous.

Passion Bars
After seeing other's issues with spreading the peanut butter/condensed milk mixture I thought that the bars would be more easily prepared in my food processor. It worked great. Another change I made was to add 1/3 cup of cream cheese and 1 tsp. vanilla to the peanut butter/milk mixture in the food processor. I store the cooked bars in the refrigerator so it keeps longer and that helps with the crumbly top layer, as well. Great dessert with these changes.

Pet Cookies
All the baby food jars I've found are 4 oz. so I did use this recipe and formulated my own, using 1 cup of wheat germ, 1 egg, 1 cup whole wheat flour and 1 cup of 10-grain pancake mix and the 3 4-oz jars of sweet potato baby food. Just a note: as there are no preservatives these can develop mold easily, I had to toss some of my last batch.
