I've been living in Covington with my fiance for almost 2 years now. Since I first moved up here, I've been experimenting a lot in the kitchen. My great grandmother was the queen of southern cooking, and my mom took after her as well. I never had the want to learn to cook until moving in with my fiance. Now I think it's fun to try new recipes.
My favorite things to cook
Spicy Chicken Fetuccine, desserts of any kind, my great grandma's recipe for chocolate peanut butter balls, chicken and dumplings
My favorite family cooking traditions
Every Christmas, we make the chocolate peanut butter balls. The recipe was left behind by my great-grandmother. She used to make them when my mother was a little girl, then when I was a litle girl. Now that she's gone, it's nice to continue the tradition. It makes us feel like she's there with us at christmas.
My cooking triumphs
Well, I'm still learning so I don't have too many triumphs just yet. Although I do admit I make a mean bacon wrapped hamburger and some really good chicken and dumplings.
My cooking tragedies
There was this one time when my fiance and I tried to make Chicken Kiev which turned out to be way more than we bargained for. I didn't have a mallet for flattening out the chicken, so I put the chicken in a gallon size zip-lock back and started hammering it with the bottom of a glass. When that didn't work, I took out this huge measuring spoon we have and never use. It was put to good use that night.
