About this Cook
I love my family...I'm a Mom, Grandma & Great Grandma. My great grandson calls me "GeeGee"...you know...for "Great Grandma".... he's adorable. I've been a widow for over 20 years & still miss my wonderful husband. I love family get togethers...in the summer we spend two weeks together at a cottage on L.I. Sound as well as getting together for holidays, birthdays etc. Those special times together give me a good excuse to cook & bake. I also have been a menber of my church for over 60 years. We have fund raisers & pot luck suppers etc. which also gives me a chance to bake.
My favorite things to cook
some of my favorite things to cook are one dish meals...I have some good recipies....also I enjoy making cookies...we have invented some recpies over the years. I have one named for my grandson, Kevin....we call them "Kevmars"...for "Kevin & Grandma"...the inventors!...everyone loves them.
My favorite family cooking traditions
the most fun we have is before christmas....we all get together to make gingerbread houses....each family makes one. The tradition goes back 50 years when I made my first gingerbread hosue....they started out simple but have progressed over the years. As was bound to happen the next generation has taken over & I basicly get to sit & watch...I do construct the bases for teh houses but everyone has a hand in the decorating....some getting very elaborate.
My cooking triumphs
My cooking triumphs are probably some of those one dish meals. I've made some really good ones.
My cooking tragedies
When I was first married I made a pound cake that looked beautiful. We had guests over & as we were having tea & cake we realized my lovely creation had an odd taste. Since we lived in a small aparment at the time there wasn't much storage room so things got store together. My husband's can of turpentine was right next to my can of baking powder...need I say more? The baking powder absorbed the turpantine "flavor".It was a disaster.
