About this Cook
My favorite things to cook
I love baking. Beyond that, I like trying new recipes to meet my whimsical tastebuds.
My favorite family cooking traditions
My family made very traditional meat and potatoes meals, and, to this day, my mom's favorite food is mashed potatoes. And, when the carb craving got the better of my mom, we would have chicken and noodles over mashed potatoes. Fortunately, I liked to try new foods, and my interests grew from there. Although I still love chicken and noodles.
My cooking triumphs
I have been learning Indian cooking (mostly north Indian) for the past few years. I am finally getting good at some things. One of the most challenging things to make is chaapati, like a flour tortilla made from finely ground wheat flour and water. It is supposed to be perfectly round, puff up when cooking and stay soft. After 5 years of trial and error, I think I can generally make an OK chaapati...generally. :)
My cooking tragedies
...too many to repeat....

Tangy Cucumber and Avocado Salad
Exceptional. A fantastic side dish for a Mexican dinner as an alternative to guacamole. Or simply by itself. I added a splash of red wine vinegar.

Boilermaker Tailgate Chili
This chili was OK on flavor, but not much better than a typical chili dumped out of a can. It's also very high in fat and salt. I agree with another reviewer that this leaves you feeling like a brick hit your stomach.
