Hello, my name is Sommer, and I'm married with 3 children. I've always did a little cooking growing up. but my mom usua;;y had to force me into the kitchen. When i left home, when I did cook, I cooked from the memory of taste. I tried to mimic my mother's cooking to a tee and I did well. Then in the Spring of 2007, I got a sudden passion for cooking after purchasing my first cookbook. Since then I've been a cooking nut. I have small children, so it's hard to satisfy them sometimes, or I get interrupted so much it turns a 30 mins or less meal into a 1hr or more! But i still love to do it and am eager to learn more. I read magazines, books, and various of websites to up my cooking knowledge. Not to mention the cooking shows I watch. We don't get PBS or Food Network here, so I buy a lot of DVDs and I do enjoy the programmes on the BBC, Channel 4, and UKTV Food. I'm a food nut.
My favorite things to cook
I love to cook big breakfasts on the weekends. And I love to try out new brunch dishes. I like to make sandwiches (prefably grilled meats) with my own sauces. I love cooking with mushrooms, especially where portobello is the main dish. I love making varieties of pasta dishes. There's so much more.
My favorite family cooking traditions
I'm still in the midst of making my own traditions. I do like to cook and a bake traditional Christmas meals and desserts all December. I'm swtiching up the Thanksgiving/Christmas menu until I find THEE dishes that my family will not turn down. I've only cooked Thanksgiving/Christmas dinner twice, so I know it's going to take time.
My cooking triumphs
I'll have to say my triumph was making an apple pie from scratch. The crust to filling was absolutely delicious and the homemade ice cream I made to go along with it was perfect. Simple, yes, but I'm still pretty new to cooking/baking, thus I was very proud of myself. My husband thoroughly enjoyed it.
My cooking tragedies
oh gosh. when is started out cooking i would use a whole bulb of garlic instead a clove lol. i made a very garlicky alfredo that my husband still loved lol. i've also burnt bottoms of pots, had flat cookies, i overcook scrambled eggs every 3 times i cook them, and other silly mistakes that i've learned from.
