Five Spice Turkey Cheeseburgers

Reviewed: Jan. 31, 2012
This was good! Used ground beef instead of turkey and omitted the Chinese spice mix. But it turned out very good. Everyone loved it. Better with 2 pineapple rings vs. one!

Slow Cooker Borscht

This soup turned out well. Kind of a sweet and sour taste that was unique, and not bad. Made for some great leftovers.

Lana's Sweet and Sour Meatballs

Reviewed: Nov. 15, 2011
This was a huge hit with the whole family- and for once, I didn't change anything! Actually, the only thing I did differently was to not cook the meatballs in the sauce. I found that 12min in the oven was perfect. It was so colourful and felt Hawaiin. The sweet-sour ratio was perfect. Definitely will be making this again, and would be proud to serve it to company :)

Simple Chicken Parmesan

Reviewed: Nov. 8, 2011
So good! Whole family loved it! The note says that it makes twice as much sauce as is needed, but I let it simmer while I did the chicken and it reduced and got thicker and was just enough. I doubled the oregano and basil and added a bit more sugar, as per our family's taste. Word to the wise: the breading on the chicken burns fairly easily at med-hi heat, so a medium heat would be better. I am already excited to make this again!

Heavenly Chipped Chocolate and Hazelnut Cheesecake

Reviewed: Oct. 27, 2011
Simply the best cheesecake I've ever had! It was gorgeous and delicious and stunning for Thanksgiving dessert. Used Torani hazelnut flavouring, as I didn't have liquer. This recipe takes time with waiting, roasting, crushing, whipping, etc. but it is absolutely worth it!

Pumpkin and Sausage Soup

Reviewed: Oct. 16, 2011
I'm rating this 2 stars because made as it is posted it somehow turned out all wrong for me. More of a thin broth with no pumpkin flavour, texture or colour. I ended up adding a lot more pumpkin in. It was homegrown, roasted pumpkin, which I strained, pureed, then added, instead of letting it cook in the soup. This made it a very quick soup, as I did not have to simmer for 45 min. I doubled the thyme and added a bit of rosemary. Used 3/4 cup 1% instead of the cream, left out the butter, and added salt. I didn't have praline liquer so I added a touch of maple extract. Not a bad thing! Overall, I was a bit worried I hadn't done enough to "save" the soup, but everyone loved it! We really enjoyed the chunks of sausage. Definitely excited to eat the leftovers and will be making it again seasonally. If you fiddle with the levels, you can't go wrong with this recipe. Thanks MARBALET :)

Tzatziki Sauce II

Reviewed: Sep. 5, 2011
This tzatziki was not the best I've had, but the best that I have personally made. I used Greek yogurt, so I didn't have to strain it. I did press the shredded cucumber in a clean cloth to eliminate the excess juice and came out with a good constistency. I like my tzatziki a little more intense, so I added a few squirts of lemon juice. Did not use the mint leaf suggestion. Just played with the levels of ingredients until it was the way I like it. Looking forward to having this with a Greek meal!

Easy Indian Butter Chicken

Reviewed: Aug. 22, 2011
This was amazing! Best butter chicken recipe I have tried so far. Next time I will cook the chicken first, set it aside, then use the frying pan to carmelize the onions and then add the sauce ingredients in with the onions, and finally re-add in the chicken to save some dishes :) I played with the cream and tomato sauce levels until I got them how I wanted it and it was great. I'd be happy to serve this to anyone!

Banana Coconut Loaf

Reviewed: Jul. 27, 2011
This was delicious! So moist and tasty :) I changed it a bit by adding toasted coconut and almonds, a bit of cocoa powder to make it chocolatey, and i don't even remember what else by this point. Really nice with some natural peanut butter though!

Mom's Best Pork Chops

Reviewed: Jul. 3, 2011
Second time around I didn't bake these. My chops were thin enough that I could just fry them for a few minutes on each side and that didn't dry them out too much. These were really nice. I had to add extra seasoning to the breading and egg mixtures. Nice with gravy on top!

White Chocolate Blondie Brownies

Reviewed: Jun. 6, 2011
My family loved the concept of a white brownie! These were very tasty and we loved them. The only thing that didn't go so well was the baking. Mine turned out too browned and crispy on top, which wasn't what I was going for. I wonder if it's because I was baking them in a small toaster oven and they were too close to the element? I will probably put them on a lower rack and try a lower temperature for longer next time. So yum though. Thanks for sharing the recipe :)

Homesteader Cornbread

Reviewed: Jun. 5, 2011
This is good! Maybe I like this because I am from Canada, where the recipe originated from :) Little bit sweet I thought at first, but it actually goes really well with my pork chili. I added about 2 tsp lemon juice because I like my cornbread with a slight lemon-y taste, and it is great. Found that the temperature was maybe too high, as the edges got quite browned and crunchy quickly. Will experiment with temperatures and bake times next time.

No-Fuss Rice Pudding

Reviewed: May 29, 2011
This was great! Loved how healthy and easy it was to make! So comforting and yummy :) I used soy milk, and found that I needed to increase the cooking temperature to med-high heat and add about 8 minutes to cook it properly. I left out the raisins, added a teaspoon vanilla, extra cinnamon, and used basmati rice. Will definitely be making again and again :) Thank you!

Malaysian Mango Chicken Curry

Reviewed: May 27, 2011
Mmmm! I don't know if I've ever had a chicken dish like this before, so it was very exotic and delicious. Already can't wait to eat the leftovers tomorrow :) It seemed a little lacking in flavour to me, so I increased the curry and sugar, but couldn't put my finger on what else to add. I also let it simmer for a while after putting it all together to let the flavours go together, and that was a good call. I used 1 normal red pepper in place of the bell peppers called for, and love it.

Millet Muffins

Reviewed: May 14, 2011
Great recipe! I increased the amount of millet and really love the little crunch! I feel so good about not having sugar in it. Super yummy and just lightly sweet. 15 minutes was too long in my oven and they were slightly overdone. I will be making these for a late mother's day breakfast!

Oh wow, these are good! Mmm, so yummy when they're still warm and gooey. I love the honey in there! I did the 2 1/2 min of boiling like other reviewers had said, with good result. Will definitely be making these again. So easy in my dorm room :)
