I'm 24 yrs old and I've been cooking since I was a teenager. My parents split around that time and it was up to me to watch my little sister while my mother worked and went to school full time. Challenge #1, The art of cooking...Learning all the basics. Nowadays I'm currently living with my boyfriend of three years and he's a very picky yet healthy eater. Challenge # two: Tweaking my favorite recipes that I grew up on so that we can enjoy them together. I've also started using a lot more fresh, and organic veggies as well as substituting turkey, chicken and bison for beef and pork
My favorite things to cook
Spaghetti, Lasagna, St. Paul's Rice, Vietnamese Chicken Wings (Healthier alternative to Hot Wings during football parties or other gatherings)
My favorite family cooking traditions
Baking weekend when my mother and sister. We spend 3 days making cookies, chocolate covered pretzels and pecans, and peanut butter blossoms. We box them up and give them to our friends, family and co-workers.
My cooking triumphs
Recreating my boyfriends favorite recipe of his mother's. The difficulty came with the lack of recipe. When his mother passed away the recipe went with her. Between talking to her husband, her mother and AllRecipes.com I was able to recreate it perfectly. St. Paul's Rice has since become one of our favorites. I always have to make a double batch and none of it is ever thrown away!!
My cooking tragedies
I've yet to have a tragedy... I have had a few bad recipes... I would call them tragedies though
