I love to read cooking magazines such as Cooks Illustrated, and others that describe techniques and explain the what, how and reasons behind recipes and ratings of cooking utensils. I would love to have worked in a test kitchenas a profession. The only part about cooking I do not enjoy is the clean-up. My husband and I entertain often and I am always looking for tasty, presentable recipes that are also healthy.
My favorite things to cook
Foods which bring joy to others when I serve them. Love to find recipes that are really good and healthy too. I get a great sense of accomplishment when making breads, soups, special desserts.
My favorite family cooking traditions
Cooking with my family. When they were young, cooking with my sons, now I love cooking with my grandchildren, sister, friends and neighbors. Candies, cookies, and breads are favorites to cook with my grandchildren. Cooking for family and friends and spending time around the table talking, laughing and enjoying tiime together. Today is granddaughters 8th birthday. I gave her a cookbook I am making for her with recipes we have already cooked together and other simple recipes she can make with a little help from her Mom. I will continue to add recipes to the book as time passes. I also purchased matching aprons for us so we can wear them when we cook togther.
My cooking triumphs
When I was in the Dept.of State Foreign Service at the American Embassy in east Berlin I won best overall and most unusual chili in a chili cookoff. Making home made chocolate candies for a friend who thought they were professionally made.
My cooking tragedies
When cooking for a dinner party one day I removed a cake from a bundt pan before it had cooled enough and it crumbled. To save the day I crumbled the cake into pretty individual little bowls and servied it with whipped cream and cinnamon sprinkled on top. No one knew the difference.
