I am married and have recently moved to a small rural town in TX. There are no restaurants in our town except for fast food and Houston is about an hour away. So, my husband and I eat in almost every night. It has been quite a culture shock having come from La Quinta CA. But I am learning about southern cooking ( black eyed peas, BBQ, etc.) and trying to cook healthier meals. I love this website and have had great successes.
My favorite things to cook
I love to cook the traditional Armenian recipes that have been handed down from my grandmother and mom. Examples include stuffed grapeleaves, hummus, baklava, kufta, taskebab, spicy Armenian chicken, eeach, and armenian hamburgers.
My favorite family cooking traditions
My mom was a terrific Armenian cook and her food was always good. So now I am trying to make everything she did so I can pass the recipes on to my nieces.
My cooking triumphs
My greatest triumph is helping my husband evolve from meat and potatoes only guy to one who loves Armenian food. He also loves most of my other dishes. I have also overcome my fear of failure and have introduced Armenian cooking to my new friends in rural TX, where we now live.
My cooking tragedies
I recently tried a new recipe for a flourless chocolate cake that I was taking to our neighbors house. It was posted as " idiot proof" and came out like mud soup. Fortunately, I had some ingredients left and made a chocolate mousse (from an allrecipes entry) and it was faboulous.
