About this Cook
I love to cook, for awhile I had a catering business with my mom and sister and a baking business with them as well. My brother and I had a little ice cream shop and cafe downtown asheville called the Ice Cream Garden Cafe. I worked as a prep cook, a line cook and a chef at several establishments in Asheville and Florida in College. I miss it!! Now I cook for my family at night and for Family get togethers. Contemplating going back into the "business" b/c it is in my blood. I really want to learn more about raw foods and vegan baking. I am trying to make time in the upcoming year to actually do what I love. It's a resolution. Ergo-this profile!
My favorite things to cook
I love making mexican, burritos, avocado salad, salsa's and soups such as veggie and corn/kale chowder. I also really enjoy making middle eastern, falafel, hummus, baba ghanoush. Jewish Traditional foods like Matzo ball soup, kugel and cholent. Also,my mom says I would be a good Sunday church cook since I like to do those casseroles!!
My favorite family cooking traditions
Shabbos at my moms, it is a big deal with lots of good food and different things. Enjoy all holidays as an opportunity to make food and share with those I love.
My cooking triumphs
When I was 10 I came home from school with a recipe for blinzes and made them for my mom for mother's day. She loved them. They were pretty good. Then again it is hard to mess up anything with cream cheese in it! I think that along with a couple of weddings that I catered and was really proud of were my highlights. And any time my little boys tell me that other "cookers aren't as good as your cooking". That makes me feel incredible.
My cooking tragedies
At 18 I made an orange "chiffon" pie out of condensed orange juice frozen and cool whip. I don't think my brothers or my dad have ever let me forget that one. Oh and I did have quite a few scary concoctions before I really knew what I was doing..................luckily I haven't had anything inedible in years.
