About this Cook
Wife and mom of three girls ages 12,9, and 7. Love to cook and will try different foods at home with family anytime. If it is not good, we just throw it out, order a pizza and try again next time. Like to spend time outside with family and dog too and can't wait for spring so the ground dries out and we can resume outdoor activities.
My favorite things to cook
Anything my kids will eat. They are pretty brave and will try almost anything once. They have eaten things that I never thought they would like Tabouleh, Raw and Cooked Sushi, all sorts of curries and even Spinach. My 7 year old begs for my creamed spinach at least once a week.
My favorite family cooking traditions
My grandmother and mother always "made" me help in the kitchen when I was young. I have done the same thing and my oldest daughter has been cooking since she was 3. She is 12 now and will choose a recipe and take off with it. All three kids love to help with meals and are very creative and make really good suggestions about spices and substitutions on recipes. We make a day of going to a farmer's market and choosing vegetables and taking turns coming up with new ways to cook them. Even their dad gets in on that one.
My cooking triumphs
Triumphs? I have not burned the house down yet, I guess that is good. I don't really have any big triumphs. Between work and kids and life in general, some days just getting it on the table is a HUGE triumph.
My cooking tragedies
Got busy one time while I was cooking a banana pudding and forgot the sugar. Then forgot to taste it because I was rushed. Imagine my husband's surprise when he dug in and had to figure out what in the world I was trying to feed him. He has never let me live that one down. He always asks if I will make a banana pudding with sugar in it for him.

Spicy Peach-Glazed Pork Chops
I really enjoyed this recipe. I only gave it four stars because the sauce was way too thin. That is probably my fault though. I did decrease the amount of wine and it was still thin. But it had a super taste and the kids LOVED it. Even my mom who is super-picky about food loved it.

Green Grape Salad
We tried using Stevia instead of white sugar and it was great! We started with one packet and added just a little at a time until we reached the level of sweetness we wanted. My kids LOVE this recipe. We also used 1/2 green and 1/2 red grapes.

Sarah Contona's Sweet Potato Pie
Not too bad. I left off the marshmallows since I made it the night before our church lunch. Just before I served it I spread some sweetened sour cream on the top. The crust was not my favorite part and I will change that next time to a regular pie crust. Again, I made the filling in my food processor to get a smooth texture. I went to three stores to find light cream but no luck so I used half and half and it turned out really rich. My girls decided though that it was more like Sweet Potato Cheesecake than pie. Was it a hit at church? Well, about 100 people ate and my pie was the first desert gone and I shared the recipe with almost all of the ladies there. So yeah, it was good.
