These cookies made me the talk of the town. By far the best recipe for sugar cookies I've tried.
I made mine for a Christmas party and added a twist.
I split the dough and mixed one half with chopped dates and almond slices, rolled out and cut with cookie cutters, baked and iced with an almond cream cheese frosting.
For the other half of the dough I mixed in crumbled candy canes, then shaped the dough into candy cane shapes, baked and sprinkled with powdered sugar.
Both were a hit. The candy cane cookies with the crowd favorite.
For the basic recipe, I'd say that refrigerating overnight makes a huge difference. Also, don't overbake. I baked mine for exactly 8 minutes even though they did not look completely done. When they cooled, they were just the right density. "Perfectly soft."
