About this Cook
I come from a long family history of growing what you eat. My earliest ancestors settled the area I live in. My 100 yr. old grandmother still does all her own cooking and wastes nothing. My mother could make a meal out of anything on a moments notice.
My favorite things to cook
Everything.
My favorite family cooking traditions
Although my mother could make a meal out of anything, she wasn't a very good cook, so I have not kept very many of my family cooking traditions. My husbands family has many (he's a better cook than I) and we use them. Most memorable is the "Pastie", a calzone type steak and potato pocket.
My cooking triumphs
I grew or made an entire meal from scratch. Ground the wheat(grown locally), made the bread, grew the tomatoes, made the cheese, and soon will be collecting eggs from my 14 Buff Orpington hens.
My cooking tragedies
Trying to make 100% whole wheat bread. I make bricks.

Vanilla Ice Cream I
Loved the flavor of this recipe! I wish I could make it without all the stirring over the stove :( I prefer the custard style though so I guess I will stir. We had high humidity the day I made this and it seemed to not want to freeze.

Blueberry Sour Cream Coffee Cake
I changed this recipe slightly. I used fresh picked blueberries and doubled the amount. I baked in a 9X13 pan and omitted the layering and the nuts. I sprinkled the brown sugar on top just before baking. Much easier and just as tastey.

Scones
I made these in a hurry one evening before the kids scattered to their various practices. They were so tasty that they stuck around for more. Very easy and turn out great every time. Thanks for a great recipe.
