About this Cook
I live in Illinois with my husband, our 4 year old son and my 18 year old daughter. I also have a step-daughter that is 17 and a 21 year old son. The last of the bunch is the best eater in the group! I work for a community bank and really enjoy my job. I also love to cook and am glad to have found this site.
My favorite things to cook
I love to cook anything but I hate to bake.
My favorite family cooking traditions
My mom was a war bride and came over from Germany. She had many German dishes I enjoyed as a child. I wish I would have paid more attention before she passed and learned some of her dishes better because nothing was written down.

Cheeseburger Soup I
I used 1 1/2 lbs hamburger and frozen diced potatoes. Followed rest of recipe. I did my veggies and hamburger then threw in the crock pot with frozen hash browns on my lunch hour. I cooked the butter, flour and milk and added to crock pot with the cheese. My family really enjoyed this soup. Very filling. We changed it up just a bit with a garnish of crumbled bacon, making it bacon cheeseburger soup. Will make again for sure

Fish Fillets Italiano
I used blue hake fish from Schwans. My only addition was a can of mushrooms and I used chicken broth since I don't have any wine. Served over angel hair pasta since we had rice the night before. Will make again for sure!

Simple Carnitas
This was on my menu for new recipe night and is now going into my favorites! The only thing I did different was, after I shredded the meat I placed in a skillet with a bit of oil to "crisp" up some of the meat. I then added some of the broth back to the meat to keep it moist. Served with Mexican Rice II and fresh guac. This is a keeper!
