Chocolate Banana Martini

Reviewed: Jan. 28, 2009
Lo and Behold, I just happened to have all the ingredients on hand. I use banana liqueur for making Bananas Foster, but never thought it would make a very good cocktail drink. Had I not had everything on hand, I don't think I ever would have tried this, otherwise, but it was very pleasant, rich, and enjoyable. Nice alternative to white russians. I will definitely make these again!

A little sweet for my taste as-is. Using Cranberry/Raspberry juice and juice from a fresh lime (rather than reconstituted) gave it a very pleasing tartness to offset the sweetness. After those modifications, it was a sure "5" star.

Bottom Round Roast with Onion Gravy

This was okay, definitely not the best, but I don't think I would make it again. We didn't really find it as flavorful as we had expected it to be from the reviews. We ended up "doctoring it up" in the end to give it enough flavor to satisfy our palates, so that it wasn't a total waste for us.

I did not find this recipe at all to my satisfaction. I may try it one more time on the outdoor grill, but I wouldn't use it again for stovetop preparation.

Callaloo Soup

Never Again.... I had high expectations for this dish based on the reviews. We were very disappointed. I followed the directions exactly as written using fresh spinach, and it was awful. I will say that the longer it cooked, the better it tasted, but even after 4 hours on the stove, and several adjustments, it was still not up to par. Since my investment was $15.00, I did what I could to make it taste better, but even after adjusting it, though it was better, it had a dull flavor.

Fried Rice Restaurant Style

We liked this recipe. It was fast and tasty, and we can see the possibilities this dish can serve as a base-recipe for other ingredients, like shrimp and pork. I made it with just-prepared rice, as I didn't have time to make it a day in advance, and it turned out just fine. I will try it next time with pre-prepared rice, as other readers suggested. I didn't have sesame oil on hand, so I just used a little tahini, instead. This dish more than adequately served the 4 of us for a total cost of just under $2.00; great to remember if shopping on a tight budget!
