About this Cook
My favorite things to cook
I love to use my wok! Stir fry is the best. :) I also like to recreate favorite meals from restaurants--muffuletta sandwiches, fish and chips, chicken piccata. I make dinner every night, so I'm always trying something new!
My favorite family cooking traditions
ummm--not too many here, folks! I come from a family that ate a lot of burnt hamburgers on Wonder bread :)
My cooking triumphs
I make a beautiful carrot cake (thanks to a great recipe that I got from allrecipes.com about 8 years ago!)
My cooking tragedies
fat free fettuccini alfredo--yes, it was as bad as it sounds!

Quinoa Pilaf
This is a pretty basic pilaf recipe, and it's fine. However, I think it's really important to stress in the recipe that you have to rinse the quinoa really well before you cook it!!! Otherwise it tastes terrible.

Garlic-Lime Chicken
I didn't like this recipe. The only flavor we could taste was the soy sauce. It just tasted like really salty chicken. We won't make it again.

Ultimate Lemon Cake
I made the cake according to the recipe, except I used (2.75 cups) cake flour instead of all-purpose, since I find it usually produces a lighter, better textured cake. I also added a tablespoon of lemon zest. The cake was done in 50 minutes, so I took it out a little early. Next time, as others suggested, I will use 4 eggs instead of the 8 yolks. Also, I will use much less glaze--just too sweet! However, I had no problems removing it from the pan, and it was nicely textured. It disappeared quickly, so we liked it fine, but with a few changes, it will be better suited to my family's tastes.
