Grandma & Lucas
About this Cook
I am a social worker and specialize in Alzheimer's/dementia. I am 3 classes away from my Masters in Gerontology. I have been married for almost 32 years to a retired Marine, whom I first met when I was 12 and he was 13. We have a 31 yr old son and 27 yr old daughter. We have one precious grandson; 21 month old Lucas William(our son's baby)-he is in the picture with me. I love to cook and love to cook pasta dishes. We were stationed in Japan for 9 years, and I frequently prepare Japanese dishes. I would say I am an excellent cook, but not when it comes to baking or candy making. I collect cookbooks and cooking magazines. I have hundreds of cookbooks that I have collected over the past 31 years.
My favorite things to cook
Italian, Mexican, Japanese, Southern Comfort Food
My favorite family cooking traditions
Cooking Christmas dinner this year with my 28 yr old daughter, Amanda
My cooking triumphs
Creating my home made baked macaroni and cheese recipe that everyone who eats it wants the recipe. It is always requested that I bring this to family functions.
My cooking tragedies
While we were stationed in Iwakuni, Japan, I made my home made carrot cake to take to my husband's company Christmas dinner, but instead of putting in cinnamon, I accidentally put chili powder in it instead!

Delicious Ham and Potato Soup
This is the recipe I have used for the 32 years of my marriage but I add carrots to the vegetables and don't finely chop the onions because we like a bigger onion chop. I garnish with chopped green onions (green tops only) and cheddar jack cheese.

Best Steak Marinade in Existence
Did not care for this marinade. I will stick to the steak tip marinade on this site which only has 4 ingredients, and is awesome.

Cincinnati Chili I
I had lost my original recipe for Cincinnati Chili, and through searching for what seems forever, online, I found this recipe. I knew it was the one, because it was the only one that included 2 cans of beef broth. the only change I made was to leave out the chocolate, and upped the cinnamon a dash. It was then the recipe I was looking for. Don't try any other recipe. This is the closest there is!
