About this Cook
I'm a happily single 25 year old from Central Florida. I have a "son"; my Yorkie, Andy-Kann. He's my pride and joy. I enjoy my friend's and family's company just as much as my solitude. I also love to cook-out and party. It's a habit and a hobby!
My favorite things to cook
Chicken. It tastes great, it's healthy, and it's easy to cook. I also like to bake pasta, especially when I have company over. It's filling and it's fairly easy for me to multitask when I have an entree in the oven. I can accomplish preparing a large meal with little or no help.
My favorite family cooking traditions
My grandmother always used "Le' quor" in her dishes. Brandy and vodka was like her salt and pepper. She never drank it but she cooked with it all the time. I never understood why she did that, but she never made bad meal. Her dishes were always so flavorful and unique. She was such a great cook and many of the techniques I use in the kitchen today I learned from her, including using liquor to spice up my own pasta sauces. I also enjoy grilling. I live in Florida and the grilling season here is nearly year round, except for the occasional hurricane. When I was younger, my uncle would take me and my brother to the Gulf to fish for Mackerel. After we had filled the cooler and the long and hot day had ended, we would head home to clean and smoke the fish for a rewarding and well deserved dinner. I've obtained many grilling tricks from my family, and every cook-out has been a learning experience and a happy memory.
My cooking triumphs
I had family and friends over for a Labor Day weekend cook-out and tried my hand at kabobs for the first time. I didn't quite know what I was doing and it was pitch dark outside, but they turned out perfect. How I managed to grill 30 kabobs so perfectly was a stroke of pure luck! I had roasted them on an old tabletop grill that I used to take with me on camping trips. The fire seemed a little cool, but the "slow roasting" effect presented me with my greatest grilling achievement. They were a hit!
My cooking tragedies
I stepped up to a 15 sq. ft. stainless grill I got as a Christmas gift from my mother in 2007. I tried the kabobs again for Christmas dinner and charred them to ash, but that's not the worst part. While trying to cool the excessive heat with water, I severely burned my arm on the hatch door and had to go to the emergency room. LOL. It's funny thinking about it now, but it hurt so bad and I even missed a week of work. I guess bigger is not always better! I'm still trying to get used to the grill.
