My husband Fernando, our puppy Princess and I live in San Andres Huayapam, Oaxaca (Mexico).
I am originally from the Bay Area (CA), though over the years, Oaxaca has become *home*. Fernando is from a small pueblo in the Sierra Norte of Oaxaca, where the native tongue is Zapoteco, though resided in California for 16 years.
We began frequenting Oaxaca in '05 and after going back and forth every 4-6 months, we decided to make a permanent move in May 2007. We lived in my husband's pueblo for a year, then decided to expand our business ventures in the city of Oaxaca.
We have a materials (for construction) store (similar to Home Depot) in the Sierra and a Constructora company in the City. We build roads-bridges-subdivisions and anything in between. Import/export heavy machinery, coffee and sell/buy real estate within Mexico.
Since most days are left open for me, I decided to dabble a little in the cooking department. So far, so good. :) I enjoy learning...period.
My favorite things to cook
Healthy and Veggie-fied....or if need be....chicken
My favorite family cooking traditions
Fernando and I hosted our first "holiday dinner" on Easter, it was a great success. Hopefully this will become a *tradition*
My cooking triumphs
Making 95 chicken/veggie kebabs from this site (Rosemary Ranch, Yummy Honey and Chili-Lime) for a BBQ at the end of February...there were only a couple left! Everyone loved them and asked if I catered, hahaha :)
Also...a fondant birthday cake for my dear friend...wasn't THAT pretty, but tasted WONDERFUL!
My cooking tragedies
Chicken marinated in red wine (from this site), I must have messed it up-it was so bad I couldn't eat it!
My biggest problem/fear with cooking is a crowd. I get so nervous when I cook for other people. I have ended up telling our friends, "Just come over between 6-7 any day" otherwise my nerves botch the meal. But when it's just my husband and I...no problem (and he's not even lying about the food either!) :)
