Not much to say about me, really. I like to cook and have been doing so for a few years now. When I say cook, I don't mean picking up the phone and calling for delivery. I don't mean a bag of Maruchan Ramen Noodles ( though I still have them once in a while... ) either. I mean using a pot, pan, or dish in combination with the stove, oven, or crockpot.
Also - I don't eat mushrooms and I don't eat seafood.
My favorite things to cook
I would say that Northeastern American-traditional is what I cook, with a hint of Italian-American. I like steaks, burgers, fries, chicken of pretty much all sorts and other comfort foods like chicken soup, chili, and mac & cheese. I don't cook too much outside of those areas, but I have on occasion and will do so if I have a good recipe and the ingredients.
My favorite family cooking traditions
I don't really have too many family cooking traditions, but the one that is absolutely foremost in my mind is Apple Crisp for dessert. I've been eating this stuff since I was a kid and the recipe was passed down from my grammy to my mom and I believe my grammy might have even been handed the recipe from HER mom.
My cooking triumphs
The first time I made chocolate souffle is tied with my first ( and successful! ) attempt at creme brulee.
My cooking tragedies
Funny enough, I just had one. I was making breakfast after the New Year and was making homemade whipped cream ( with vanilla sugar and extract for a little flavor ). I was also cooking bacon.
I know I know... pay attention to 1 thing at a time. Normally I am good at multitasking and I was watching my cream thickening.. then heard a POP on the stove and turned to make sure the bacon didn't explode ( sorry, grease fire trumps consistency every time ). Well, it didn't, but by the time I got back to the whipped cream, it was too late.
Thankfully I had enough cream to make a new batch, which turned out tasty.
