About this Cook
My favorite things to cook
I like to bake but can't wait for summer when I can grill again. I like good old southern recipes...comfort foods. My family enjoys corn fritters, baked chicken, North Carolina pulled pork BBQ and home-made ice cream sandwiches.
My favorite family cooking traditions
Every time we cook as a family, we cook 10 times more food than we could ever eat...but, everyone has something that is one of their favorites. No one ever sits down to the table and wonders what they can eat or will there be enough for seconds. We make buckwheat cakes for Christmas breakfast, ham and shrimp for Easter dinner, and anything that sounds good in-between.
My cooking triumphs
My first supper for the in-laws. Talk about a nervous experience. I tossed angel hair pasta with fresh scallops, shrimp and lump crab meat with a garlic olive oil and home-made hush puppies. They loved it!
My cooking tragedies
I have a lot of tragedies. But, if I didn't then I wouldn't spend much time in the kitchen. My tragedies always end up with a trip to the Dairy Queen...hot fudge Sundays are the best way to make up for a botched dinner!

Country Ham
Great recipe! I live in the south and get fresh ham from my uncle who raises pigs and cows for slaughter...needless to say I'm always looking for a fresh way to prepare the meat! I did add molasses (a healthy 'splash'), used dark brown sugar instead of light and selected fresh made peach jam from our seasonal canning which I think is a world apart from store-bought. I liked this recipe enough to pass it on to the old biddies in the family! Thanks for sharing!

Triple Dipped Fried Chicken
Wonderful recipe, very similar to my great-grandmother's old family recipe. I added seasoned salt instead of regular salt, added an extra tsp paprika and a tsp of chili powder, 1/4 tsp cumin and I also used shortening to fry the chicken instead of vegetable oil. It was amazing.

Easy Lemon Cookies
My aunt made cookies like these for years but would NOT share the recipe! I made these over Thanksgiving when she was visiting and she was so shocked that they were just like her's. I used the same recipe idea and made chocolate and strawberry too. Thanks for a great recipe and the last laugh!
