Broccoli with Garlic Butter and Cashews

Reviewed: Dec. 25, 2009
My husband, who never has much to say about any recipe, said - WOW!. A huge hit for us on Christmas Eve. I mixed it up ahead of time and simply microwaved it to heat it up just before tossing with the broccoli. Such a simple recipe, with outstanding flavour! Thank you!

Spicy Roasted Red Pepper and Feta Hummus

Reviewed: Dec. 24, 2009
I agree with a previous reviewer - way too thick, and we found it extremely bland. Added some garlic, olive oil and more salt to try to save the day but still very disappointed. Sorry.

Pumpkin Cranberry Bread

Reviewed: Nov. 17, 2009
Holy Smokes! Addictive. Halved the recipe and also subbed 1/2 whole wheat flour, and added 1/2 tsp soda to help give it a bit of lift. Used the dried cranberries and I don't have a problem at all with the end result. Baked it in 8" square pan (couldn't find my loaf pan - how do these things happen?) and it turned out just fine - baked approx. 35 minutes. Five stars and two enthusiastic thumbs up!

Iced Pumpkin Cookies

Reviewed: Nov. 16, 2009
So disappointed in what I thought would be a delicious cookie. Followed the recipe *exactly* as written. Texture is as anticipated - very cakey - but the only thing that gives this cookie flavour is the overly sweet icing. Other than that, just a very bland & boring cookie. Only gets one star because 0 stars isn't an option.

Delicious! The crust *just* covers the pan so if you are looking for a bar with a denser base, do as other reviewers have suggested and double the crust.

Delicious! And I managed to forget the melted margarine in the microwave, but even with this unintended modification, these were light and tasty! Definitely a family hit.

Potato Curry

Very delicious, *mild* curry. Perfect base recipe - easy to spice it up a little or a lot. I do agree with previous reviewers that have found the sauce a little thin - next time I'll use less water.

Apple Crisp IV

Very disappointed. Always make a recipe first as written and then make personal adjustments if we like it well enough to make again -- won't happen with this one -- extremely dry and bland.

Deep Dish Potato and Pumpkin Pie

Reviewed: Sep. 26, 2009
Made the filling exactly as submitted but omitted the crust -- thought I'd do a trial run. My family gives it 5 thumbs up! This will become a dish I take to Thanksgiving dinner this year. One question: there is one family member that isn't too fond of thyme. Could anyone suggest an alternative herb to use that would similarly enhance all the flavours?

Garbanzo Stir-Fry

Reviewed: Sep. 26, 2009
Tried it as originally written and far too bland for our tastes. I do agree with other reviewers that it provides a good "jumping off" point. To save the meal I served with sour cream and a bit of curry sauce over brown rice and it was delicious. Next time I would double the garlic and add onions, as many have suggested.

Sorry, didn't live up to my expectations after reading the other rave reviews. Too vaguely sweet & bland -- no real taste of its own (to me). Still, happy I tried it and thank you for posting it.

Made exactly as directed and giving this one 5 stars! Moist, delicious, chocolatey. In fact, we didn't bother with the icing. Note: Don't be fooled by the dry "batter" at the beginning - as others have noted, this turns out just fine without any tinkering. Thanks, Marian!

Slow Cooker Chicken Taco Soup

Very delicious & satisfying. We did add more cumin but that is the beauty of this recipe -- gives you a great dish you can fine-tune to your taste. A dash of seasoning salt on each serving seems to bring out the flavours. An instant family favourite and one that will be made again and again! Thx for this terrific recipe.

I found this to be a very bland dish, following the original recipe. I do think it is a good starting point and will follow some of the other reviewer's suggestions to jazz it up a bit.

Loved the flavour but had trouble with the texture-used the flax seed substitution for eggs, for my vegan husband. Ended up frying to get a "sturdier" patty. Any suggestions?

Holy smokes. I'm in cookie heaven! Reduced oil to 1/3 cup, added 1/2 cup chopped walnuts, cooked 2 minutes longer...sheer bliss. (Almost didn't get to the cooking stage -- my family kept "tasting" the dough!!) Super recipe.
