About this Cook
I've recently wandered into new cooking territories and trying new things in the kitchen. I have been experimenting with some original Mexican cooking lately. Tastes nothing like the Tex-Mex we have here in the States. It is wonderful. Discovered a great Mexican market nearby which provides all the ingredients and tools to make it very authentic. I have a wonderful Taco recipe should anyone want to try it. I even make my own tortillas now!!!
My favorite things to cook
Newly found old recipes. I enjoy grilling and smoking and also slow cooker recipes.
My favorite family cooking traditions
Unfortunately, my parents way of cooking can be summed up as bland!!! Salt and pepper was their only seasoning, and that was used sparingly. They believed spices and spicy food ruined your stomach. Glad I got out of there when I did and discovered a whole new way of cooking and eating. PS That was 30 years ago. I LOVE spicy hot food and have been enjoying it for 30 years and my stomach, as well as the rest of my body is quite intact and in pretty good shape also.
My cooking triumphs
A very successful try at traditional Mexican tacos (Tacos al Pastor). It got rave reviews from some pretty critical diners!!! Can't wait to do it again, as well as find and try more traditional Mexican cooking.
My cooking tragedies
I burned a nice beef roat on my grill one time. I have a hard time grilling chicken without drying it out, so I shy away from grilling chicken.

Slow Cooker Spicy Black-Eyed Peas
Made this last night for a New Years Eve celebration. Served it to many traditional Texans who have had black eyed peas for many decades. Received rave reviews from all. Excellent dish.
