About this Cook
My husband and I love to cook, bake and eat. We like trying new recipes that liven up our meals. We're both finding out what we like and don't like to make. I'm a PSU graduate and miss going to tailgate's (always good food there)!
My favorite things to cook
I like baking cakes, cookies or anything with chocolate in it! I've tried a few icing recipes from scratch and they've turned out great! I like to cook chicken, pasta, chili (from scratch), barbequed pulled pork and enjoy using my crock pot.
My favorite family cooking traditions
My grandma has all her recipes memorized and has passed most of them down to my mother, who also has them memorized. I need to learn these recipes, such as, a gob cake and icing, potato soup with dough balls in it and how to make my gram's tomato sauce.
My cooking triumphs
As I stated in my favorite things to cook, barbequed pulled pork and chili. This was amazing! I got the recipe from a co-worker and will never try another. I love to bake and for my wedding baked over 800 cookies for a "cookie bar" which served as the hors d'oeuvres (my gram and mom made about 1,000 combined). I found some great cookie recipes doing this!
My cooking tragedies
I've never had a tragedy that I can remember. However, when I bake pumpkin bread and a pumpkin bar with icing recipe, the center seems to become gooey while cooling. I think I need to bake it longer, even though a toothpick inserted comes out clean before I take it out of the oven. I’ll figure this out eventually. It’s still good though!

Mom's Zucchini Bread
I had a huge zucchini to use up and made 3 batches of this bread with it (6 loaves). I didn't have any walnuts, so I just threw in 1/2 a bag (1 cup) of chocolate chips into two of the batches. Both turned out great!

Cajun Chicken Lasagna
My husband and I loved this recipe. He doesn’t like regular lasagna much because of the ricotta cheese in it, so this was right up his alley. I added a bit more Cajun Seasoning because I decided to use smoked sausage in case it was too hot for us (we are wimps when it comes to heat in foods plus I couldn't find andouille sausage). But next time I’d like to try ground chicken and ground sausage instead of the chunks of meat. Very good!

Easy Slow Cooker French Dip
I had to improvise when I couldn't find the soup this recipe calls for so I used the dry boxed French onion soup. I think that combined with the beer I used (Amberbock) didn't work that well. The meat was tender, but didn't have much taste other than the beer. I’m giving it a 3 because of the taste, which is probably my fault and not necessarily the recipes. I’m not sure I’ll try it again even if I do find the condensed French onion soup.
