About this Cook
I'm newly married and just learning how to cook for two (instead of scrounge around the refrigerator to feed myself, like I've done for the last ten years). I live in a small town in Utah but love to travel to Europe and all over the U.S.
My favorite things to cook
I love to do anything in a slow cooker, canning and making cakes.
My favorite family cooking traditions
My mom is originally from the Czech Republic and I have so many memories of traditional Czech dinners at the holidays but I especially love the cookies my mom would always make for us to make into plates for our friends and neighbors.
My cooking triumphs
It's a triumph any time my husband doesn't say "This is good, honey, but maybe next time you could/not...."
My cooking tragedies
The first time I made banana bread I read the recipe wrong and instead of 2 teaspoons of salt, I added 2 tablespoons of salt. Not good.

Hudson's Baked Tilapia with Dill Sauce
Really, really, really good. I've made this as is, and it is fantastic. We really like to put the sauce over mashed potatoes and serve it with steamed carrots on the side. Great recipe.

Slow Cooker Chicken Stroganoff
Wow! This was great and so easy. I didn't have a packet of Italian dressing so I just seasoned it liberally with Mrs. Dash's original blend (probably a tablespoon or so) and added 2 Tbs. of margarine. It was fantastic over egg noodles.

Bechamel Sauce
My husband prefers white sauce over red so I decided to try to make it from scratch and this recipe was super easy! I used 2 cups of half and half (I was trying to use it up), cornstarch instead of flour and a bouillion cube, plus I didn't have grated onion so I used a dash of garlic powder instead. It was still a bit on the bland side for me so I added about 1/2 cup of sundried tomatoes that I had. I poured it over Four Cheese Ravioli from Costco and my husband loved it. I will definitely use this as the base to most of my white sauces in the future.
