I am an art teacher and a preschool teacher. I used to own an art studio but moved to a new city. Now I teach little ones preschool in the morning and a few private art classes in the afternoons. I also teach at a local museum during the summer. I have just recently married. I am learning to cook and so far loving it. I don't always have time to cook anything complicated so I try to stick to the quick and easy recipes. I am trying to organize the recipes I already have from family and friends but this site is so easy to use that I keep coming here instead!
My favorite things to cook
See below!:o)
My favorite family cooking traditions
My grandmother almost always made a roast for lunch on sundays. She would stick it in the oven while we were at church. It was the most comforting smell to come home to and it was always ready to eat! That is still one of my favorite meals. My other grandmother always made this favorite: pan fried steak, gravy, mashed potatoes, purple hull peas, cornbread and peeled tomatoes! Southern cooking is comfort food for me!
My cooking triumphs
I just started cooking more the past two years and so I still keep it really simple. Luckliy, most everything I have tried to cook has turned out well, with the exception of the example below. My two favorite triumphs are making gravy that turned out pretty similar to my grandmothers and adding sausage to a quiche instead of ham. It turned out wonderful and is now my husbands favorite.
My cooking tragedies
This one is easy! I made a quiche using a recipe from here and my husband and I loved it so much I made it again. I had used fresh onions but had just bought minced onions to make it easier and added that instead. The next morning, I ate a few bites and new something wasn't right, it wasn't nearly as good. I called my husband and told him not to eat it but he already had and kindly said it wasn't so bad. I went over the recipe in my head and couldn't figure out what I had done wrong. As I was looking through the cabinet for ingredients to another recipe, I found a bottle of minced GARLIC that I didn't remember buying. I finally realized what I had done!
