Recently retired (not by my own choice); however, the best thing that could have ever happened to me. Live alone. Have two children, two grandchildren, and two grandpuppies. Native of New Orleans. Now live in the suburbs. From a family of good cooks. I don't think of myself as an expert but everyone likes what I cook. Also love to sew, do counted cross stitch and read.
My favorite things to cook
Southern comfort food.
My favorite family cooking traditions
Stuffed cabbage casserole. My mom would parboil a whole cabbage, then peel the leaves back, and stuff it as you would an artichoke only with a tasty ground meat and rice stuffing. She would then bake it in the oven. The presentation was great. It came out looking like the largest cabbage in the world with a beautiful lightly browned exterior. She would then slice it as you would a layer cake.
My cooking triumphs
Reproducing my mothers stuffed cabbage as a casserole. Presentation is not as great but the taste is. Also my Amaretto cheesecake squares.
My cooking tragedies
Recently: Potato Salad - The potatoes were both mealy and waxey. The onions had know bite. My favorite mayo company improved there recipe (not).
I forgot to buy parsley. No complaints from the family but not my usual.
