Being raised on the Gulf of Mexico in the Heart of Dixie, I have been raised around the excitement of different foods. I am a military wife and we have 5 children, so that has also helped expand my love of tasting and preparing different dishes. I am willing to try new things, and I have raised my children to do the same. However, my very picky eater of a husband sort of hinders that a bit. (we usually wait until he is deployed or on gone for a few days before we break out the good stuff) We have a very busy schedule especially during sports seasons, so fast and easy or easily prepared ahead of time is fantastic!!
My favorite things to cook
I absolutely love to bake, but never ever seem to have the time, or money to bake what I would love to bake. I am a very messy cook, but if I had someone to clean up every single mess behind me ... I would make more and more desserts. Candy is a feat I would love to tackle!!!
My favorite family cooking traditions
DRESSING!!!!!! At Thanksgiving and Christmas there is one thing that I just have to make and that is my Grandmother's dressing. Both my mama and Granny have passed so it is up to me to pass it on to my daughter and soon to be granddaughter. Sage, chicken broth, homemade cornbread, stale white bread, eggs, celery, pepper, salt to taste and then squish it all with your hands until its like ... well, squishy. There's more to it, but never ever to we measure ... it's all by tase. My grandmother would never taste it because she couldn't stand the thought of there being raw eggs in it, so it was up to me and Mama. Good thing, because now I know what to look for.
My cooking triumphs
A BAKED ALASKAN!!!!!! Can you believe it????? It was amazing!!!!! Yeah, I was really surpised, too.
My cooking tragedies
Homemade chili!!!!!! I just can't seem to get it right without buying a mix. I mean, one time I made it and it was so aweful that LITERALLY the dog turned her nose up to it. It got a real laugh, but seriously ... I just can't get it!!!!
