My name is Christyn and I live in Akron, OH with my 2-year-old and my husband. I teach special education to students transitioning from school to work (18-22 years old). I feel I'm one of the last remaining women in my age group to be "domesticated" (or at least I pretend to be!)
My favorite things to cook
Easiest or favorite? I make Mexican A LOT because it's easy and my husband LOVES IT! Pulled pork in the crock pot is easy with cilantro/lime rice and other burrito fixins' are a favorite in my house. I try to cook healthy for my finicky daughter and husband, but often goes untouched.
My favorite family cooking traditions
Strombolli is a definite hit. We call it "Big Mammy's Strombolli" because my Mom's nickname is "Big Mammy" (long story) and it's about the only thing of hers I know how to do.
My cooking triumphs
I mastered the Strombolli! I also made a mean chilli a few years ago, but never wrote the recipe down and can't duplicate it! I also got my daughter to eat broccoli by mashing it with potatoes and Velveta.
My cooking tragedies
Oh, I really shouldn't go there. Definitely more than triumphs. About 8/10 of my adventures end up in the trash. My Dad keeps encouraging me, though, because when I'm on, I guess it's good. I will tell everyone, DO NOT talk on the phone when getting something out of the oven! That was my Thanksgiving dessert disaster...pumpkin cake EVERYWHERE!!
