As a Brit living in the USA I miss some of the foods of home. Scones, flapjacks, shortbread biscuits are all recipes I am trying to convert British directions into US ones. I have two elementary school children and a wonderful husband who love my baking results - they wish I had more time to bake more often.
My favorite things to cook
I really enjoy baking. Banana bread (sometimes with mini-choc chips) and pumpkin bread are two of my family's faves!
My favorite family cooking traditions
Cooking with my children is very special. My daughter especially loves it and I hope I inspire her to continue to love baking in the kitchen. She has an adorable pink princess apron (and I have a Mommmy striped apron) and we have lots of fun together. My Mum loves to bake - but rarely let us help, so I want to change that with my family. Cooking can be a lovely social occasion.
My cooking triumphs
Would all exist in the baking world. I can cook dinners, but my husband does a MUCH better job :) Salads are the only area I can conquer his skills in as he is slightly afraid of vegetables!
My cooking tragedies
A Martha Stewart leaf gingerbread wreath that took hours to make and fell apart quickly!
Trying Emeril's recipe for banana cream pie (which we love) and failing abismally and not really knowing why. I haven't attempted it since, but maybe I will again...
