I used the sponge cake recipe as my base for a strawberry shortcake recipes from the other site. I try to make my desserts "home-made" if possible, and that's how I came across this sponge cake recipe! The strawberry shortcake is supposed to be a round cake, but I used 9X13 pan for the flag cake. It has a layer of cheesecake in the middle and whipped cream on top. Instead of just using strawberry as the recipe indicated, I use blueberry for the blue as well, and it turned out very nice:)
