About this Cook
Although I don't have any children, I have three granddaughters! Nice trick, right? My stepdaughters were 15 and 17 when I met their father so I was never their mother (although they never pass up a meal that I offer and occasionally borrow money so I guess that constitues "mothering" to now-20-somethings!) But I think it makes being Grandama even sweeter.
My favorite things to cook
I love to cook anything but baking is my passion. A few years ago I had the opportunity to go to culinary school and loved every minute of it. If I could support myself baking, I would do it in a minute. For now, I just enjoy it as a passionate hobby.
My favorite family cooking traditions
Holiday meals with ALL the extras. Too much food for anyone to eat everything. I can't wait to pass the holiday traditions on to my granddaughters who are already Grandma's best helpers!
My cooking triumphs
I love the fact that even though our mother was a good cook and my five sisters are all good cooks, everytime I bring somethng new to family get-togethers, I am always asked to bring it again!
My cooking tragedies
My mother did a lot of cooking without recipes so I thought that's just what you did. One time when I was about 12, I was home alone and decided to make a pie. The crust was really not edible. Decades later, I still remember that pie!

Double Chocolate Pie
If you like chocolate, you owe it to yourself to try this recipe! I have made it twice and received rave reviews both times. The first time, I used a traditional homemade crust. For this years' Thanksgiving, I had my stepdaughter pick up a crust, expecting a graham cracker one, and she came home with a chocolate one. Either way, this is one delicious dessert. Easy, quick, chocolate and delicious. What more could you want?

Simple Carnitas
Simple and simply delicious! I wanted to make this for Halloween and knew it would be a busy day so I made it in a crockpot. I left the roast whole and browned it first on all sides. Then threw it all in the crockpot with some chicken stock. On high for six hours and .... perfection. Other than browning it first and using half the salt, especially with the additional saltiness from the stock, I followed the recipe as written. Even my picky stepdaughter raved about it. Can't wait to add some Sweet Baby Ray's barbeque sauce and try it on a "French Bread Rolls to Die For" from this site. A new favorite for sure. Thanks Ken, you are a genious!

French Bread Rolls to Die For
These rolls turned out beautifully. They also froze well. I will definately use this recipe regularly.
